Ugandan Sipi Falls Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What makes Ugandan Sipi Falls coffee unique?

Sipi Falls coffee is sourced from the Sipi Falls Coffee Project in Uganda's Kapchorwa District at 1,500-2,500 meters on the slopes of Mount Elgon. It is one of the highest-altitude coffees in Kochere's lineup. Four varietals — Bourbon, SL14, SL28, and Blue Mountain — are grown in volcanic loam soils and fully washed. The result is a strikingly clean, bright medium roast with lemon, apple, and caramel notes. Triple-certified: USDA Organic, UTZ, and Rainforest Alliance.

What does triple certification (Organic, UTZ, RFA) mean?

Sipi Falls carries three independent certifications. USDA Organic verifies no synthetic pesticides or fertilizers are used. UTZ (now part of Rainforest Alliance) certifies sustainable farming and labor practices. Rainforest Alliance (RFA) certifies biodiversity conservation, ecosystem protection, and climate-resilient farming. Each requires independent annual auditing — triple certification means three separate organizations verify the farm's practices from environmental impact to worker welfare.

Is Ugandan coffee specialty grade?

Uganda produces mostly commodity robusta for export, but the Kapchorwa District on Mount Elgon grows high-altitude arabica that is firmly specialty grade. Sipi Falls, cultivated at up to 2,500 meters with SL28 and Blue Mountain varietals in volcanic soil, is a completely different product from Uganda's lowland robusta. Fully washed processing and organic certification place it alongside the best East African arabica.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

Your beans are roasted within 1-2 days of your order and shipped immediately in compostable packaging. Most US orders arrive within 3-5 business days, at peak freshness.

What grind should I choose?

Whole bean is recommended for optimal freshness. For drip, select Drip Grind. For French press or cold brew, choose Coarse. For espresso, select Fine. Sipi Falls' clean, citrus-forward profile shines in both pour-over and drip brewing, where the lemon and apple brightness come through clearly.

How should I store my coffee?

Store in the resealable bag or an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dark place. Avoid refrigeration. Whole beans stay fresh 4-6 weeks; ground is best within 1-2 weeks.

What if I don't like my coffee?

Kochere offers a Perfect Cup Guarantee. Contact us within 30 days for a full replacement or refund — no questions asked.
