Ethiopian Sidama Coffee

Kochere's Ethiopian Sidamo is a silky, medium-light natural process roast sourced from smallholder farmers in the celebrated Sidama Zone — the birthplace of Arabica coffee and one of Ethiopia's most storied growing regions. Cultivated from indigenous heirloom varieties at 1,700–1,900 meters in Nitisols-rich soil, these beans are dried whole inside the coffee fruit on raised beds, locking in a naturally smooth sweetness. The cup is accessible and crowd-pleasing: milk chocolate and caramel dominate, with a gentle fruity lift that keeps it bright and lingering. An ideal gateway coffee for those new to Ethiopian naturals, and equally satisfying for seasoned specialty drinkers. Non-GMO, roasted to order.

Ethiopian Sidama Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What is Ethiopian Sidamo coffee and where does it come from?

Ethiopian Sidamo (also called Sidama) is a naturally processed coffee from the Sidama Zone in southern Ethiopia, one of the country's most celebrated specialty coffee regions. Kochere sources from smallholder farmers growing indigenous heirloom cultivars in Nitisol soils at 1,700-1,900 meters elevation. The medium-light roast produces a silky cup with milk chocolate, fruit, and caramel notes.

What is the difference between Ethiopian Sidamo and Ethiopian Harrar?

Both are naturally processed Ethiopian coffees made from indigenous heirloom cultivars, but they come from different regions with different soils and microclimates. Sidamo, from the Sidama Zone at 1,700-1,900 meters in Nitisol soils, produces a lighter, sweeter cup — milk chocolate, caramel, and delicate fruit. Harrar, from the Oromia Region at 1,780 meters in Vertisol soils, is bolder and more fermented — intense berry, honey, and dark chocolate with a wine-like depth.

Is Ethiopian Sidamo a good coffee for beginners?

Ethiopian Sidamo is one of the most approachable specialty coffees available. Its medium-light roast preserves the natural sweetness without sharp acidity or overwhelming intensity. The milk chocolate and caramel notes make it familiar and comforting, while the fruit undertones add complexity that rewards exploration. It is an excellent starting point for anyone moving from commercial coffee to specialty single origin.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives

Your beans are roasted within 1-2 days of your order and shipped immediately in compostable packaging. Most US orders arrive within 3-5 business days of the roast date, well within the peak flavor window of 4-14 days post-roast. Every bag includes the roast date so you know exactly how fresh your coffee is.

What grind should I choose for Ethiopian Sidamo?

Whole bean preserves the most freshness and is recommended if you have a grinder. For drip coffee makers, select Drip Grind. For French press or cold brew, choose Coarse. For espresso or AeroPress, select Fine. Sidamo's delicate milk chocolate and fruit notes are best highlighted by pour-over methods (V60, Chemex) where the lighter body and floral aromatics fully develop.

How should I store my coffee?

Keep your beans in the resealable bag or transfer to an airtight, opaque container. Store in a cool, dark place like a pantry — never in the refrigerator, which introduces moisture and absorbs odors. Whole beans stay fresh 4-6 weeks after roasting; ground coffee is best consumed within 1-2 weeks.

What if I don't like my coffee?

Kochere offers a Perfect Cup Guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied, contact us within 30 days and we will replace your order or issue a full refund — no questions asked.
