Tanzanian Peaberry Coffee

Kochere's Tanzania Peaberry is a rare, small-lot specialty coffee sourced from cooperative farmers in the elevated Mbeya Region of southern Tanzania. Peaberry beans — naturally single, round seeds instead of the usual two flat halves — are prized for their concentrated flavor and vibrant acidity. This medium-light roast is fully washed and dried on raised beds to preserve its delicate, aromatic character, yielding a luminous cup with notes of fresh pear, jasmine, and strawberry. One of the most floral and fruit-forward coffees in Kochere's lineup, roasted to order and shipped fresh in compostable packaging. A standout for pour-over and drip brewing.

Tanzanian Mbeya Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

What is Tanzanian Peaberry Mbeya coffee?

Tanzanian Mbeya is a fully washed, AB-grade specialty coffee sourced from small cooperative farmers in Tanzania's Mbeya Region in the Southern Highlands. The Bourbon and Kent varietals are grown in clay mineral soils at 1,200-1,900 meters elevation. The medium-light roast produces a luminous, aromatic cup with pear, jasmine, and strawberry notes — one of the most floral coffees in Kochere's lineup.

What does AB grade mean for Tanzanian coffee?

AB grade is a Tanzanian classification based on bean screen size. It combines A-grade (screen 18) and B-grade (screen 17) beans for consistent density and size. Consistent sizing produces more even extraction and a more balanced cup. AB is a recognized specialty designation — not a secondary grade — and the standard for most high-quality Tanzanian exports.

What makes Mbeya Region coffee special?

The Mbeya Region sits in Tanzania's Southern Highlands between 1,200 and 1,900 meters elevation, far from the more famous Kilimanjaro growing zone in the north. The Southern Highlands' clay mineral soils, combined with high altitude and Bourbon and Kent varietals, produce coffees with distinct floral aromatics and bright fruit character. Fully washed processing and raised-bed drying preserve the delicate jasmine and pear notes that define this origin.

How fresh is the coffee when it arrives?

Your beans are roasted within 1-2 days of your order and shipped immediately in compostable packaging. Most US orders arrive within 3-5 business days of the roast date, well within the peak flavor window. Every bag includes the roast date.

What is the best way to brew Tanzanian Mbeya coffee?

Pour-over methods (V60, Kalita, Chemex) best showcase the floral jasmine and pear notes. Use water at 91-93 degrees Celsius, a medium-fine grind, and a slow controlled pour. The aromatics are most pronounced when the coffee is very hot, while fruit sweetness deepens as it cools. Drip brewing also performs well. For Coarse or French press, expect a fuller body with muted florals.

How should I store my coffee?

Keep your beans in the resealable bag or an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dark place. Avoid refrigeration. Whole beans stay fresh 4-6 weeks post-roast; ground coffee is best within 1-2 weeks.

What if I don't like my coffee?

Kochere offers a Perfect Cup Guarantee. Contact us within 30 days for a full replacement or refund — no questions asked.
