Our Promise

Fair Trade Coffee, Freshly Roasted and Shipped at Peak Flavor

Fair trade certification ensures ethical pricing for farmers — but freshness is what ensures you actually enjoy the coffee. Kochere delivers both. We roast every fair trade coffee in small batches only after your order is placed, so your beans arrive within the 4-to-14-day peak freshness window.

Fairtrade Coffee Frequently Asked Questions

What does “fair trade” mean for coffee?

Fair trade guarantees coffee farmers a minimum price for their beans — regardless of commodity market swings — plus an additional social premium that cooperatives invest in schools, clean water, healthcare, and agricultural training. It also requires environmentally sustainable farming practices and safe working conditions.

Is fair trade coffee better quality than regular coffee?

Fair trade is an ethical certification, not a quality grade — but in practice, the pricing structure incentivizes farmers to invest in better cultivation. All fair trade coffee at Kochere is also specialty grade (scored 80+ by certified Q graders), so you get both ethical sourcing and exceptional taste.

Do you offer free shipping on fair trade coffee?

Yes. All Kochere orders ship free within the United States. No minimum order, no subscription requirement. We deliver to all 50 states and U.S. territories.

What’s the difference between fair trade and direct trade coffee?

Fair trade is a third-party certification with set minimum prices and audited standards. Direct trade is an informal model where a roaster buys directly from a farmer, typically paying above fair trade minimums but without formal certification. Kochere practices both: we carry certified fair trade coffees and also maintain direct trade relationships across all our origins.

Is fair trade coffee more expensive?

At Kochere, fair trade single origin coffees are priced in line with the rest of our specialty lineup — typically $27.49 per 12 oz bag with free shipping. That works out to roughly $0.75 per cup brewed at home.

Can I get fair trade coffee ground for espresso?

Yes. Every fair trade coffee is available whole bean or custom ground. Grind options include espresso, drip, pour over, French press, AeroPress, cold brew, and Turkish. We grind fresh right before shipping.

Which Kochere coffees are fair trade certified?

Our Colombian Medellin is our flagship fair trade certified coffee — a medium roast with vibrant dried orange and berry notes. Check individual product pages for current certifications as we regularly evaluate new lots.

Is fair trade coffee also organic?

Fair trade and organic are separate certifications, but they often overlap. Some of our coffees carry both. Browse our Organic Coffee collection and look for origins that also appear in this fair trade collection.

How does buying fair trade coffee help farmers?

Fair trade guarantees a minimum floor price ($1.80/lb for washed Arabica) plus a $0.20/lb social premium that cooperatives vote on how to spend — funding schools, clinics, roads, clean water, and agricultural training. It also requires transparent contracts and restrictions on exploitative labor.

Do you have a fair trade coffee subscription?

The Kochere Safari “Coffee of the Month” Club ($24.99/month) rotates through our full lineup, including fair trade origins. For guaranteed fair trade each month, contact us to customize your subscription.

How fresh is Kochere fair trade coffee when it arrives?

Every bag is roasted 1–2 days after your order and shipped immediately. Most customers receive it within 4–7 business days of roasting. Roast date is printed on every bag.

Is your fair trade coffee packaging sustainable?

Yes. All Kochere coffees ship in 100% compostable packaging with a one-way degassing valve and resealable closure. Designed to break down in commercial composting facilities.
